There and back again, an Adora tale by Craig Minchington. Art, Design and everything else in between.

Gromit Unleashed

Last week I handed in my @GromitUnleashed application, so here’s a sneak peak of my patchwork entry. Fingers crossed that I get picked and get to paint up one of the sculputres. In a similar vain to last years Gorillas, Gromit sculptures are being unleashed upon the City of Bristol to raise funds for Bristol Childrens Hospital.

Cinema 4D Modelling & Texturing experiment

In an attempt to learn more about modelling, lighting and texturing in Cinema 4D I turned to the trusty Mecca of Nick Vegas & Chris Schmidt over at GreyscaleGorilla. I’m pretty pleased with the outcome and I plan to use this model in a personal project to take it one stage further on from the tutorial.

Adora Studio Tunes - Top 10 Albums of 2012

Here is a list of my top 10 albums of 2012. They all had a good amount of air time on the studio speakers and helped get me through some late night projects.

If anyone is interested I have compiled a Spotify playlist with a couple of my favourite tracks from each album. It’s a bit of a mixed bag ranging from acoustic through to metal. Hope you enjoy.

The Summer may be over…
Okay, so I guess September marks the end of Summer….but what a Summer it has been. I have tried to capture as many of the experiences I’ve had on my iPhone.
Strangely I have done some of my best, favourite and most challenging work to date over the past few months. The lack of British sun aiding this and allowing me some extra time behind the computer.
New York, new additions to the family, various weddings, parties, late nights, roadtrips, camping sessions, festivals (not enough though), bands watched, songs written, runs, live drawing, See No Evil, Run Your Jewels, tutorials, spacemen, models, Ospreys, whisky, new cocktails drank, old hangover feelings, dogs, spiders, wolves, tigers, new friends made & old friendships revisited. Bring on the Autumn and all the creative adventures that go with it.

I Got 5 On It - Creation Timelapse Video

As part of the See No Evil Block Party, I was invited to paint a live piece at the Long Playa environment installation. In the week leading up to the date, 5 of the artists were asked to produce a countdown time lapse video to help promote the event. Here is my offering, the number 5.

A massive thank you goes out to Tim Mines for letting me use his awesome 5 doodle for the basis of the piece. Go check his Pun/Skull/TopHat fusions here

SeeNoEvil / LongPlaya - Live Painting
As part of the 2012 See No Evil Block Party, I was invited to paint a live piece at the Long Playaenvironment installation. This was my first attempt at live painting and although it was a steep learning curve, I throughly enjoyed it. Thank you to The Long Playa and See No Evil crews for asking me to paint. Also a big shout out to Lee Ellis and Nakama for letting me share their wall and everyone who came down to show support.

Run Your Jewels Winner!

Just want to give a massive shout out and thankyou to photographer Ryan Bater Photographyand model Jordann Ebbitt for letting me use some of their work as a basis for my Run Your Jewels entry. The piece eventually went onto win and I can’t explain how chuffed I am.

You can see the final piece here..

http://adoradesign.co.uk/Three-Little-Words

I have been playing with Cinema 4D more and more recently but this time I wanted to go one stage further and add motion. This is my first experiment with After Effects and it is surprisingly new-user friendly. Once again massive thanks goes out to Nick Campbell for all the online lessons he has up for new users.

The copy line used is an extract of Takuboku Ishikawa, a Japanese poet who I came across on my recent trip to Japan in 2010.

Three Little Words is my remixed entry for Run Your Jewels. Run Your Jewels is fortnightly remix competition run by Justin Maller, where different artists provide a source file for contestants to work on top of.

My entry was using the lovely illustrated work of Sara Blake.  You can vote for my work at http://runyourjewels.com/round/4/craig-minchington/. Any votes and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

A massive thanks also goes out to photographer Ryan Bater and model Jordann Ebbitt for letting me use a photograph that they had previously collaborated on for basis.

Cinema 4D Experiments
I am currently learning Maxons Cinema 4d 3D program. This project will showcase the results from experimentation and tutorials and will hopefully show a general progression of my 3D skills.

If anyone else is thinking of checking out Cinema it is definitely worth heading over to sites like http://greyscalegorilla.com/ and www.pariahstudios.co.uk/ as they are the bee’s knee’s with all 3D knowledge.

1. Polygon Reduction

Short animation experiment based on a Nick Campbell tutorial. I experimented with the studio lighting and materials to try and get the shine and colours popping.

1 Hour Projects - New York City

After a recent trip to New York I decided to edit a few of the photos I took in PS to give them a bit more impact. I didn’t want to spend too much time on them and limited myself to 1 hour per photo. All of the photos were taken on an iPhone 4S and I used the Photosynth panoramic app so I could capture more of the scene. Seeing as the shots have worked out nicely I am going to try and do this for other major cities I have visited or am going to visit, making sure that I keep the same time and equipment restrictions.

Tattoo

It’s always an honor when someone likes your work. However, my mate @s_tevew_illiams decided he liked my Hummingbird illustrations so much that he went one stage further and got them tattoo’d. What a legend.

Phoenicia

It’s probably been the best part of 3 years since me and Zachary Saitoti (the genius behind Shifteye Photography</a> & Cranium Ink first sat down and started talking through working together. It’s funny that only when Zack left Bristol did we finally get around to it.

I was given complete freedom on this piece; encouraged to get expressive whilst working on top of the incredible photo Zack supplied. Hopefully you get the feeling of a hot Summer party, after all it’s on its way.
